Shine Week

A sea of orange flood Good Shepherd School on Friday the 8th of March. This week was shine week. We raise money to help people whose lives are affected domestic violence. In support we all wore orange clothes and brought a gold coin donation to help the charity. Here are some pictures:

The First Candle

On Monday, the special characters led whole school prayers because of Advent. After Prayers, the First Purple Advent Candle was lit. There are three purple candles and one pink one. There is only one pink candle because it symbolizes that Jesus is born and it's Christmas.

St Peter's Orchestra

Last week, we had the St Peter's Symphonic Orchestra play at our school. They played lots of songs for us. My favourite one was the James Bond theme. I liked the James Bond theme because it was very funky.

There were lots of types of instruments. Like Brass, Woodwind and String Instruments.

Sports Assembly

Last week, it was the sports assembly. It was so long, it dug into our home time. The first one was the Year 5 and 6 Kapa Haka group. I was in it. The songs we performed were 

Te Himene O Te Hepara Pai, Te Aroha, Tika Tonu which was the Haka and the Hareruia. We also did this at the Eden Albert/ Rocket park Cultural Festival. Then after a long time, there was the Irish Dancers.  Then it was home time. 

Christmas Tree Ornament

On Friday 30th of November, we made a Christmas ornament. We made Christmas Ornaments to hang up on our Christmas tree.  Here's a secret. Sometimes when we make Christmas Ornaments, some   adults say they'll keep it, but then they throw it in the bin. 

Don't tell or ask your Mum or Dad if they do that! 

We made Christmas Ornaments shaped like birds.  This is mine. It's not finished yet. :(

Science Experiment Fail

Last Week on the 23rd of November, we did a Science Experiment called spud guns. We used potatoes and straws. It was very hard to jab the potato and get the potato out after jabbing it. When we tried them out, it failed. Even the paper straws failed. When we used the paper straws, it was very hard to jab it and it would go soggy once it was inside or already had a potato.

And every time I would jab the potato and would take it out, It wouldn't have a potato piece.

So, after the experiment, we wrote down the results and we didn't have much results. 

Fractions Booklet

Today, we got our Math Review Booklet back. It was all about fractions. There was all sorts of things in there. There was fractions with number lines, shapes, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Learning it was very easy, but it helped me with fractions. 

It helped me a lot with multiplying fractions.

Math 3D Shapes

Yesterday, and the day before that, we made 3D Shapes. Yesterday I made a cone and a cube. Yesterday Yesterday, I made a pentagonal prism and a pyramid. The cone and the pentagonal prism was the hardest ones. I did 1 of each shape. We didn't do a sphere because it was we can't use paper to make a sphere. We could make a sphere out of paper machete one day? The only way we would do it is to glue newspaper around a balloon then wait for the newspaper to dry then pop the balloon. Why board games are dumb
Have you ever seen some kid losing to some stranger on chess? Have you ever lost some game called Monopoly? Have you lost your fun in Game of Life?
Have you ever lost to a cheater that plays Connect 4 when he connected only three?
Well? That’s happened to me. Do you know some other board games aside from Chess and Monopoly? You know why? Cause they’re all dumb. They even have the word Bored in the word.(It only sounds like the word Bored and Board) If there were a Board Games Championship, There shouldn't even be one. It's just win or lose, lose or win all over again.
So, I have a point. Points that will force you to stop you playing board games.

First reason:Rage. Whenever someone loses, they get raged. Like me. I landed on my brother’s property on Monopoly and I had no money. And then the next turn, I get in prison. I mean, no one would bail me out but just visit me. And in Snakes/Chutes/Slides and Ladders, I was on the number 49, but then, I go to 35!?!
And my Brother/Sister/Friend was on the number 48. How was I supposed to defeat him/her now!?! I should've climbed that slide to the finish.

Second Reason: Rules. When you are so close to winning? Rules. When you are rich but lose money? Rules. Rules happen. Like UNO. There is lots of types of UNO. But UNO Emoji is the worst. My brother doesn't even know the rules. When I get a card full of Emojis, I have to get 5 more cards! Is there another card that gives you 5 more cards!?! Did I not get told?
Third Reason:Family Game Night.
You know that day when you and your family spend time together by playing a board game that is called “Family Game Night?” I do not like it.
Why can’t we watch a “Movie” Mum? Why can’t we go to “Sleep” Dad?
Why can’t we play “Video games?”
I think why family game night is supported because your “parents” want to make you embarrassed and make it look like you are the “Best Family Ever!!”

Last reason: People that don’t know how to play. Have you ever gotten soooooo much Pokemon Cards but don’t know how to play? It’s Neopets all over again.
And do you know how much energy's do you need? Twice the amount of your total Pokemon Cards. Why there should there be a Pokemon Card Tournament?
People don’t even know how to play!
They should call “UNO!” when they’ve defeated all their enemies.

And that’s why board games are dumb. It’s because you rage, those board games have Dumb Rules and Family Game Night is Dumb and people don’t know how to play.
All those stuff above this, is all board games.
And if you are a board game creator, tell another board game creator to stop and tell another board game creator to stop and another board game creator to stop and another board game creator to stop and another board game creator to stop and another board game creator to stop and another board game creator to stop and another board game creator to stop and another board game creator to stop and another board game creator to stop another board game creator to stop.
And if you don’t enjoy your board games,
Burn them or sell it to your next door neighbour.

Topic Poster

Today in topic, I did a GSS music fest poster that shows what people that are going to perform. You can see the people from NZ that  are going to perform in GSS. They are Six60, Sons of Zion, KatchaFire and Elemeno P. This was just for topic. Our topic is about our NZ or New Zealand Music Passport.

Anzac Project

Yesterday on Thursday, we did an ANZAC project. Our teacher was the only teacher to get it. When she received it, she took it out and there was a lot of Anzac stuff in it. She gave us a person each to study and put it on a Document or a Slide. Our one was Alexander Robertson(Alex Robertson) My friend got a map of something but he didn't get time to do it. Athletics Day

Yesterday, we had athletics at the Three Kings. At Athletics, there was types of sport. There was Relays, Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus and Running Races. There was a lot of people that got 1st, 2nd and 3rd. And if they got any of the places (1st 2nd or 3rd) they will go to Eden Albert Athletics. When we did the 200m run for year 5, I got 4th. I didn't get much place in all of them, but it was fun. When we got back from Three Kings, we were tired, but the we got to go to the playground for a little bit but then we got back to work.

Ministry of Education Math And Science test

Today on Thursday 8th of October 2018, we did the Ministry of Education Math and Science test. We did all sorts of maths like 32 x 48, graphs, fractions, the food chain, what makes its own food and a survey. Some of the questions were hard and some were easy. The survey was just questions asking all about us. After that, we got a certificate for participating and a pen with any colour we could choose. Mine was a red pen that has blue ink.

Comics

Today on Wednesday 7th November, we drew comics with Josh/ Mr. Drummond. We learnt how to make our drawings better and he also showed us our "AWESOME OWL PAINTING". We had him to come in because our new topic for writing is comics. This comic is about the three creatures, Chicken Man, Fat Guy Who Ate A City and Waffle turtle. This is what is happening. So Waffle Turtle wants to swim, but the others want to swim on Waffle turtle. So they did. At first, they were enjoying it and were happy. But then they sank because waffle turtle was not made for this. ( I'm telling this to you because it will be blurry when you try to read it)

Science Experiment

Today on Friday 16th November we did a science experiment. The experiment was to use different tweezers that were like beaks and see what tweezer/beak is best to pick up gummy squares and skittles.
Before we did the experiment we got to have 1 skittle and gummy each.
We named the tweezers Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, Type 4, Type 5 and Type 6. We picked Type 5 for the Gummy because it would jab through the soft surface of the Gummy. We picked Type 6 for the skittles because the wide end would help pick up the wide end of the skittle. Then we got to have some more Skittles and gummys. Then we got diabetes. JOKING! We just got sugar rush.

All Saints Day

Today, on the 1st of November, was the Feast of All Saints Day. In the morning we first set off to church. Instead of having Monsieur Bernard Kiely,  we had the priest of St Patrick's Cathedral. Then we sang a few joyful songs. After that he asked what our favourite saints were. We heard St Joan Of Arc, St Patrick, St Mary Mackillop, St Mary, St Mother Theresa and some others. Then we sang the last song then the Feast finished. But it was not over yet because there was still the whole day left.

Bike Safety

Today on Thursday 25th, we did our bike safety course. The people who were teaching us were Bigfoot Adventures. They taught us stuff like how to put a helmet on with some extra stuff that were useful. They also told us that that the lever in the middle of the wheel needs to be tightened or else the wheel will fall off and, they told us that a bike must have a reflector at the bottom of the seat, the brakes must work and the wheels must be pumped. This is me riding a bike. When I first rode the bike, I didn't know how to ride a bike. But then I learned, I knew how to ride a bike.

After that I felt so happy! 

Kia Kaha Shields

On Wednesday 17th of October, we made a Kia Kaha shield. On it we wrote what makes us unique and why our class, Room 5, is special. We did it because we were showing what we had that was unique and why our class is special.

Calendar Art

On Wednesday 27th of September, we were doing Calendar Art. Our Calendar Art was based on 2019 or something that was based on a Sun or something that looks forward to 2019. We used our mindfulness coloring that we did in class. I liked the pattern because it looks like a pattern that goes on forever and so 2019 year will go on forever.

South island robins

What is not endangered and comes and flies from the south?
It’s the South Island Robin.The south island robin is one of the sparrow sized birds in New Zealand. It weighs up to 35 grams in weight and is 10 -18 cm in length. Unlike the kiwi, it can fly. The south island robin’s tweet is very loud. The original name for it was Petroica australis.

What a south island robin eats
The South Island Robin’s diet could be invertebrates. It eats earthworms, cicadas, stick insects, tree wetas and slugs.

South island robin’s appearances:
It appears in forests and scrub habitats. Scrub habitats are a habitat with desert dunes and trees and shrubs. It is only native to New Zealand

If it’s endangered or not
The South Island Robin isn’t endangered because it lives in the South Island.
There are still lots but it's still decreasing.

How it lays eggs and how long it can live up to
South Island Robins start making their nests in July to get ready.
Then they start laying eggs in December. The female robins only lay 2-4 eggs. They can live up to 6 to 13 years old. It’s activities are pellet casting, anting and sunbathing.

What it symbolizes
Some birds have symbolism like a robin symbolizes renewal and new birth.
It is also called the spring bird because it sings a spring song and brings luck.
If you see one, people consider that you will be very lucky.
Even if you have a robin totem pole!
