Famous People In The Early Church

Last week, we learned about famous people that helped Paul and people in the Early Church(his real name was Saul)spread the word of God. My group's poster was about Peter. He was a fisherman and he was the first apostle that was chosen by Jesus.
Here are some facts that were not on the poster. Some of them might be on the poster.
-Peter's friends were tormented by the Roman Emperor Nero.
-Peter was a fisherman.
-Jesus chose Peter because the name "Peter" meant rock or stone, which Jesus said that he will build his church on the rock.

Paul's Journeys

Today we learnt about Paul's Journeys. Paul went to many different places to spread the word of God. Before he went to spread the word, he was scared to come out, but then he was filled with the Holy Spirit. Then he went to spread the word. But on the way there were people that helped him. There was Luke, who was found at Troas, Lydia who sold purple dye, was found at Phillipi. Then they found Aquila and Priscilla at Corinth. Then he stopped the journey,  because he went to Jerusalem and got caught spreading the word for his beliefs.

Ash Wednesday

Two days ago, on Wednesday was Ash Wednesday. We went to church and sang some hymns, got the ashes on our foreheads, sung happy birthday to a little girl starting school on her birthday! We then went up and got a blessing.
We did make an attempt to keep our ashes on our foreheads, but that was a fail due to swimming and itching it off. We had a good day and hope everyone else did to.

Shrove Tuesday

Tuesday was Shrove Tuesday. We all had a great day in room 6. The festivities started with the burning of the ashes on the turf. This was a new and exciting experience that not many of us had seen before.

Later on during Religious Education we learnt more about Shrove Tuesday and Lent. People used to get rid of all their luxury items such as flour, sugar, butter, eggs and milk by making pancakes. We were even able to enjoy some pancakes of our own. We all thought it was a great start to lent and we are looking forward to the Lenten season as we prepare for the death and resurrection of Jesus. We are the season of Lent and it is a time of preparation.

Year 5 and 6: Charism

Year 5 and 6: Charism

Did you know the reason Good Shepherd School named their syndicates Connolly and Sheridan? Connolly and Sheridan were the names of the first two sisters that worked at Good Shepherd School when it opened. That is just one of the fun facts we learnt this week when we explored the charism of our school. The charism of our school is the flavour of our school, it is what makes us Good Shepherd School. Over the week we looked at the history of the school and unpacked the visual Image of the Good Shepherd Cross with the values, scripture, feast days and the St Mary MacKillop sayings. We unpacked the values and why we have those values. In groups we identified what each value looked, sounded and felt like before making up definitions. Another new fact I learnt was our school was where the church was and the church was where our hall was and there was nothing at our school back then.

The First Candle

On Monday, the special characters led whole school prayers because of Advent. After Prayers, the First Purple Advent Candle was lit. There are three purple candles and one pink one. There is only one pink candle because it symbolizes that Jesus is born and it's Christmas.

Christmas Tree Ornament

On Friday 30th of November, we made a Christmas ornament. We made Christmas Ornaments to hang up on our Christmas tree.  Here's a secret. Sometimes when we make Christmas Ornaments, some   adults say they'll keep it, but then they throw it in the bin.
Don't tell or ask your Mum or Dad if they do that!
We made Christmas Ornaments shaped like birds.  This is mine. It's not finished yet. :(

All Saints Day

Today, on the 1st of November, was the Feast of All Saints Day. In the morning we first set off to church. Instead of having Monsieur Bernard Kiely,  we had the priest of St Patrick's Cathedral. Then we sang a few joyful songs. After that he asked what our favourite saints were. We heard St Joan Of Arc, St Patrick, St Mary Mackillop, St Mary, St Mother Theresa and some others. Then we sang the last song then the Feast finished. But it was not over yet because there was still the whole day left.

Abram and Sarai (Abraham and Sarah)

Today in R.E (Religious Education) we made a slide of Abraham and Sarah from the bible in the Old Testament. Instead of doing it like old time, we did it like modern. And when I mean modern, I mean like between 2010 and 2018.  Some others chose to do a play based on it. We worked very hard on it.
I hope you enjoy.  I hope you enjoy.

Symbols of the Holy Spirit

For R.E, we are learning the symbols of the Holy Spirit.
We were learning about the Dove, the finger of God and the Cloud.
My favorite symbol of the Holy Spirit is the Dove because it was there in the story of Noah's ark and when Jesus was baptized.
