Watercare

Water, water everywhere! On Friday of week 6, we were lucky to have Sally from Watercare come to teach us more about the water. We did a drama activity and experiments. Firstly we examined the process that water goes through to become drinkable water in our households. Our drama was based on the process that the water goes through to be cleaned. We were the water going through each stage. We had so much fun as we ventured around the school. Once we learnt how water is cleaned we then had to try and clean the dirty water ourselves. We had to create a filter system in partners. We had to do four different tests for our experiments. We experimented with a range of filters to try and test which filter system was the best.

Science in a Van

A few days ago, we had science in a van. During "Science in a van", they did some cool experiments.
They balanced a mop on only two fingers using physics. Then another guy did another physics experiment. He picked up a table with a bottle with a cloth underneath it. Then he removed the cloth  underneath it and the bottle didn't move at all. They did more experiments, but the last experiment was my favourite. They got some dry ice and sealed it tight in a container. And for a moment, it didn't do anything... but popped off when you least expected it.

Balloon Experiments

Yesterday we did some science experiments. We blew some balloons and tested the pressure. The balloons were red, yellow and blue. The blue was the one with the most air pressure because it was so big and all the pressure was getting all pushed and it was really packed. The red was the least because it was so small. We did another experiment, where someone blew the balloon and put it underwater in a bucket. When he unleashed it, it went back to it's original size, then water came splashing out of the bucket. 

Science Experiment Fail

Last Week on the 23rd of November, we did a Science Experiment called spud guns. We used potatoes and straws. It was very hard to jab the potato and get the potato out after jabbing it. When we tried them out, it failed. Even the paper straws failed. When we used the paper straws, it was very hard to jab it and it would go soggy once it was inside or already had a potato.

And every time I would jab the potato and would take it out, It wouldn't have a potato piece.

So, after the experiment, we wrote down the results and we didn't have much results. 

Science Experiment

Today on Friday 16th November we did a science experiment. The experiment was to use different tweezers that were like beaks and see what tweezer/beak is best to pick up gummy squares and skittles.
Before we did the experiment we got to have 1 skittle and gummy each.
We named the tweezers Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, Type 4, Type 5 and Type 6. We picked Type 5 for the Gummy because it would jab through the soft surface of the Gummy. We picked Type 6 for the skittles because the wide end would help pick up the wide end of the skittle. Then we got to have some more Skittles and gummys. Then we got diabetes. JOKING! We just got sugar rush.

Science experiment

Today in science, we learned about reaction. We tested if the wet or the dry tissue will soak up the colors with the colors, red, green, blue and yellow.  The yellow is actually in the blue container because it's changing colors. The result was the dry paper towels soaked liquid up best because the wet ones already had some liquid in them but the dry ones didn't.

Today we learned about how animals are classified into groups. Animals are either vertebrates
(which means they have a spine) or invertebrates( which means they don't have a spine).

Invertebrates are animals like jellyfish, crabs,insects and octopus.

Vertebrates are put into five groups.They are mammals, birds, reptiles,fish and amphibians.
Mammals have fur or hair and give birth to live young.Birds have feathers and lay hard eggs.
Reptiles are cold blooded and lay soft eggs. Amphibians breath through through their skin and need to keep their skin moist. Fish breath through gills and have fins

Mammals: Mammoths, Cows, Gorillas, Lions and Bears
Birds: Parrots, Budgies, Swallows, Hummingbirds and Kiwis
Reptiles: Chameleons, Skinks, Geckos, Crocodiles and Turtles
